2SZ will start operation at around 0600utc on Saturday 11th October, and
will be active through to 18th October. The station commemorates the
first ever radio contact from the UK to New Zealand 90 years ago, thus
proving it was possible to span the globe by radio. The UK end of the
contact was made by 18 year old Cecil Goyder at Mill Hill School, and
the UK regulator Ofcom has agreed to reissue the original callsign that
was used by Goyder. ZL4AA will be active from the sheep farm at Shag
Valley, Otago District, which was the other end of this historical contact.
See www.2sz.org for details. There are seven FOC members on the
operating team: G2NF, G3BJ, G3XTT, G4BUO, G4FON, M0DXR, M0PCB.
